Pericopes comprises Italian pianist Alessandro Sgobbio and his compatriot saxophonist Emiliano Vernizzi. For their album, called These Human Beings, they are joined by Brooklyn drummer Nick Wight.
In the Spring the trio played a European tour and now they are back with the Autumn version, which includes a date in Birmingham this evening and further UK dates, from Nottingham to Ambleside with a few in Scotland in between, still to come.
Their music ranges from the peaceful to the angry, with an easy flow from structure to freedom and back again. The interaction between the two Italians is long-developed but Wight fits in a treat. It should make for an absorbing couple of sets tonight.
- Pericopes + 1 are at The Red Lion in the Jewellery Quarter from 7.45pm this evening, courtesy of Birmingham Jazz. More HERE.
- Pericopes + 1’s These Human Beings is released by Alfa Projects and will no doubt be on sale at the trio’s gigs. You can find out more about the album and the band HERE.
