The Hive, Shrewsbury UK

Drummer Asaf Sirkis referred to his band as “the A Team” and concentrated on material from his most recent album Shepherd’s Stories.

A solid rhythm section of Asaf playing conventional kit, John Turville, electronic keyboard, and Kevin Glasgow, six string electric bass, with Tassos Spiliotopoulos, guitar, and special guest Gareth Lockrane, flute, played to a full house in the intimate space of The Hive.

The flute added a light touch to what was otherwise a jazz rock outfit. They never relied on the heavy riffing associated with the genre but instead produced subtle melodic music with some particularly fine solo work from Spiliotopoulos’ shimmering guitar and Lockrane’s delicate flute (surely the most underrated front-line instrument in jazz).

A great evening for band and audience alike. Next stop for this outfit is a tour of China. Lucky Chinese, I say.
