Drummer Billy Weir has recorded his band Fired Oak and is launching the group’s debut release at The Red Lion in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter tomorrow evening.

The actual silver discs won’t have arrived by then, so the physical album will have to be available on pre-order only, but it will be out on Amazon, iTunes and Spotify for all the downloaders and streamers out there.

Billy is from Cheltenham and has been studying at Birmingham Conservatoire while also playing in a range of bands doing everything and anything from jazz to function music. He played for Birmingham Jazz in Nest and that went down a storm, so BJ have welcomed him back with this folk-jazz project.

Billy says: “The idea of the album was to try and encapsulate the music I grew up on.”

Fired Oak is Paddy Benedict on vocals and guitar, Lizze Chan-Foxley on vocals, viola and violin, Vittorio Mura on tenor saxophone, Gareth Fowler on guitar, Mark Pringle on piano, James Banner on double bass and Billy on drums.

Here is a taste of the music that is on their album:
