Jazz lovers within a short, suave strut of Kenilworth, your prayers have been answered. In fact they was answered last year, but you might not have known that…
The Kenilworth Jazz Club, for that is its catchy nom de groove, is meeting on the first Monday of every month, and the Spring ’15 season opens on 2 March.
The band for that evening is the Misha Mullov-Abado Quintet, led by the Kenny Wheeler Jazz Prize-winning double bassist and also including trombonist Tom Green.
Green is something of a repeat prescription for the Kenilworth crew, having played there with his Septet and in the Dixie Strollers last year. The KJC people hope to get his exceptionally fine Septet back in Warks in the autumn, “if we can still afford him,” says the club’s David Logan.
The club’s home is Kenilworth Rugby Club, the evening starts at 7.45pm (doors open at 7pm), and entry is £6 on the door.
Following on from the Mullov-Abbado band, there is the Calvin Travers Trio on 6 April and the Ant Law Quintet on 11 May.
And the club has some sponsors, too, so a round of applause please for Loveitts Estate Agents, Wright Hassall Solicitors and Burroughs Scarborough Accountants.
