Mike Burney – funeral details

This just in from Jim Simpson at Big Bear Music:

The funeral of leading Birmingham jazz musician Mike Burney will take place at Newton Road Crematorium, West Bromwich on Thursday 18 December at 14:15.

Saxophone player Mike Burney died at his home in Walsall on November 13th after a long and courageous battle with cancer that had prevented him from playing over the past two years.

A significant and large turnout of musicians, the music business and music fans are expected to be at the funeral, to show their last respects to this exceptional and much-loved musician who opted to spend his years in this region rather than seek his fame and fortune elsewhere.

The wake will be held at The Wheatsheaf, Birmingham Road, Walsall, one of Mike’s favourite real ale hostelries.

There will be a lot of good music played to give this fine musician an appropriate send-off.
