After Jack – the Breach is filled

Jazz in Birmingham has once again managed its cunning manoeuvre of planning a clash of good gigs, but there is a solution at hand.

With Jack DeJohnette and his band on at the Adrian Boult Hall from 8pm this evening, the Jazz @ The Spotted Dog crew have pushed back the start of their Breach Trio gig to 9.30pm, so it acts as the perfect dessert to Jack’s main course.

The Breach Trio comprises one Scot, one Englishman and one Canadian, and while they have the classic organ trio line-up – Graeme Stephen on guitar, Paul Harrison on organ and Chris Wallace on drums – their approach is far from classic.

Expect some rock guitar, some nice distorting keyboard noises and a variety of beats from swing to hip-hop. All good.

Breach has a fine new album out called Borders.

Read all about them at A Spotted Blog here. The Spotted Dog is at 104 Warwick Street, Digbeth B12 0NH.

And if you haven’t booked for Jack DeJohnette, there are still some tickets on the door at the Adrian Boult Hall in the Birmingham Conservatoire building.
