Reminder from Bruce Coates that there is another exciting FrImp lineup at the Hare & Hounds this evening. Two of Britain’s finest improvisers, renowned for their work across genres. Gail Brand is probably the foremost improvising trombonist working in Europe with a vast amount of experience appearing with almost every important name in the genre. Fans of comedian Stewart Lee will recognise her from her appearance in his recent television series. Gail, who grew up in Birmingham, is making her return to the Hare & Hounds for the first time since she was 16! Mark Sanders is the drummer of choice for everyone from Evan Parker, through to John Coxon and J Spaceman (of Spiritualized) in the group Spring Heel Jack, Jah Wobble and Birmingham’s own Broadcast. His last appearance at the Hare & Hounds with Evan Parker and John Edwards was one of the exciting gigs of the year. Both Gail and Mark have worked together in a variety of settings over many years and share an an incredible musical empathy which is always a delight to the ears.
Full line-up is: Gail Brand – trombone, Bruce Coates – saxophones, Jamie Smith – guitar, Mike Hurley – piano, Trevor Lines – bass, Mark Sanders – drums.
Venue is venue 2, The Hare & Hounds, High Street, King’s Heath, Birmingham. Doors open – 8pm, Music – 8-45pm. £8/5
